It snowed in Portland two days ago. For those of you who do not live in the West Coast and know what that means, in short; chaos. As a Bostonian for most of my life, seasoned in snow jockeying, I volunteered to drive my husband to his work, about 20 minutes south of us on a clear day.
The thing to know about snow in Portland is that there is always little to no preparation in advance for such occasions, making getting anywhere important a harrowing experience. We buckled up in my little two wheel drive sedan and headed out. Mid-drive I piped up, having seen multiple overly confident SUV drivers pass us in the left lane, at non-snow speeds: "who is better off in this position, a New Englander with 2WD drive or a west coaster in 4WD?"
